Ceremony Locations at Marie Selby Botanical Gardens:

Schimmel Wedding Pavilion - The Schimmel Wedding Pavilion is an incredible bayfront location for nuptials. As it extends out into the 100-foot Great Lawn, this area has seating capacity of up to 1,000 guests. Sunsets viewed from the Schimmel Pavilion are magnificent, making it our most featured ceremonial site.

The Wedding Oak - Blooming epiphytes (plants that live in trees) reside throughout this outdoor space. Luscious blooming orchids create a unique romantic spot to exchange wedding vows. This location is in the backyard overlooking the bay of the Christy Payne Mansion.

Gazebo - Enjoy the beautiful view of the Hudson Bayou. Surrounded by lovely vines of queen's wreath, this intimate nuptial spot is an enchanting place to exchange vows.

The Banyan Grove - The roots of this old, mighty tree are extremely majestic, making it the most photographed location for bridal parties. This area is also very popular for wedding ceremonies.

Ann Goldstein Children's Rainforest Garden - The newest horticulture feature to Selby Gardens, this elevated outdoor garden simulates a tropical rainforest, one of the wildest places on earth! A spacious deck area protected by majestic century-old banyans and flanked by a 12' waterfall, the Children's Rainforest is an ideal venue for ceremonies.

Reception Locations at Marie Selby Botanical Gardens:

Great Room by the Bay - Indoor wedding receptions are generally held here. This room is newly renovated and may be customized to complement any decor. The 3,600-square-foot room has 60 feet of glass windows that provide spectacular bay and sunset views (seating is up to 170 persons for round tables or 250 theater style). This location can serve a variety of purposes and has a full complement of multi-media, internet capabilities and A/V set ups. The Great Room is open for rental seven days a week (based on availability) between the hours of 7:30AM and 11:30PM.

Schimmel Wedding Lawn/Great Lawn - 100 ft Great Lawn in the heart of the Gardens can accommodate up to 1,000 guests. Whether your event is suited to an informal sit down reception, needs the space and openness of our expansive and majestic Great Lawn or would benefit from an idyllic rainforest surrounding, our outdoor facilities are adaptive to your needs. Outdoor venues are only available outside normal Gardens' operating hours beginning at 5:00PM but can be booked seven days a week on a space available basis.

Christy Payne Mansion - The Christy Payne Mansion (also known as the Museum for Botany & the Arts) is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and offers a showcase setting with a variety of room types and sizes. The first floor is ideal for small receptions or dinners and is available for rentals after 5:00PM. There are two main rooms, two sun porches and an outdoor patio area. On the second floor there are three small meeting rooms, ideal for conference-type engagements which can be reserved Monday-Friday during the hours of 8:00AM to 5:00PM. The mansion's backyard is a stunning venue for a waterfront dinner or reception in the heart of a lush tropical garden. Both indoor and outdoor receptions are held here. The Mansion interior accommodates 55 guests for a sit-down dinner or up to 75 for a cocktail reception.

The Banyan Grove - Receptions under the stars and the majestic Banyan trees in this beautiful outdoor space. This area is very popular for wedding receptions. Shaded under the amazing trees with lights strung above. Dancing on the Historic Selby House patio.

Ann Goldstein Children's Rainforest Garden - A spacious deck area protected by majestic century-old banyans and flanked by a 12' waterfall, the Children's Rainforest is an ideal venue for afterhour's twilight events or a rehearsal dinner as well as intimate wedding receptions.

Additional Venue Information

Most ceremonies and receptions take place after the Gardens close at 5:00PM. Setup for the outdoor areas can begin after 1:00PM with permission from the Gardens Event Team. Events inside the Christy Payne Mansion must wait until 4:30PM to begin setup. All events must end by 11:00PM with cleanup completed by 11:30PM. All rental items and personal items must be completely removed by midnight. The rental period for receptions is 5 hours with 1 hour for setup. Ceremonies are 1 hour rehearsal and 3 hours for ceremony, setup, photos, and departure. All are given 1 hour for cleanup.

Marie Selby Botanical Gardens Wedding at Christy Payne Mansion

The Gardens has parking on-site for approximately 220 vehicles. Parking is limited and there may be more than one event being held simultaneously at the Gardens. Shuttle service may be arranged by your event planner for an additional cost. The Marie Selby Botanical Gardens Event Team has golf carts they use to ferry older guests and the bridal party around in.

*The Great Room by The Bay can be reserved as back-up for your outdoor event for an additional fee. Tents are permitted with an additional ground damage fee and permission from the Gardens in certain areas.

Venue Rules or Restrictions: All food and alcohol must be provided by one of Selby Garden's Exclusively Approved Caterers. Sarasota Catering Company has been an approved caterer for over 10 years. All lighting and ceiling, tree, or wall decor must be provided by their Exclusively Approved Decorators. We are happy to help you with this or you can speak to them directly.

Alcohol Policy: All alcohol must be purchased, provided, and served by an Exclusively Approved Caterer holding an off-premise catering liquor license and appropriate liability insurance. Don't worry Sarasota Catering Company has you covered for all your Marie Selby Botanical Garden Wedding and Event needs.

Does the venue provide rentals? Yes, for an additional fee. The Gardens can provide ceremony chairs, reception chairs, 5 ft round guest tables (seat 8-10), and 8 ft long banquet tables (seat 8-10).

What are the typical things you should consider for rentals? You should consider a dance floor if you are in the Great Room by the Bay, all Linens, any smaller tables for cakes or auxiliary items, sweetheart table for the wedding couple, high top (bar height) tables for cocktail hour or the dance area, and lighting.

Venue Site fee? What is a site fee? Many local venues charge a site fee on top of their venue rental fee. The Marie Selby Botanical Gardens charges all catering companies 10% of their Food, Beverage, Alcohol, and Rental/Decor sales as an additional site fee on each event. This is not a Sarasota Catering Company fee and will be detailed in your proposal from us, it is a required fee you will see from all the Exclusively Approved Caterers.

With Sarasota Catering Company and a typical plated (guest's choice) dinner, full open bar, staff, day of coordination, 100 guests, all the rentals, Schimmel Pavilion Wedding, and Great Room by the Bay Reception: $80 - $110 per person.
